Next-gen Mahindra Thar is based on a new rigid platform, likely to retain Jeep CJ5-inspired styling
Mahindra Thar is one of the best true-blue off-roaders, the country-based automaker has ever produced. The next generation Mahindra Thar is currently under work and it is expected to hit the showrooms in 2020. Meanwhile, test mule of the next-gen Mahindra Thar has been spied for the first time. The new Thar come bigger and better than the current model.
The next-gen Mahindra Thar will be based on a new platform and it is likely to retain the classic Jeep CJ5-inspired styling. However, it will arrive bigger and more spacious compared to the outgoing Thar. Also, the new generation Mahindra Thar will comply with the upcoming safety norms as well. It will be equipped with dual airbags and ABS as standard.
The 2020 Mahindra Thar will come powered by a new 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. This motor will meet the upcoming BS-VI emission norms. Despite being capable of doing tough off-roading, the Mahindra Thar comes with a spartan appearance inside the cabin. Expect the new Mahindra Thar to be loaded with some modern features adding zing to the interior. It could boast a touchscreen infotainment system alongside better seats and upholstery along with more space.
Previously, Mahindra updated the Thar SUV couple of years back. It came with some revised styling but retained the signature design language. Expect the next-gen Mahindra Thar to come with features like projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights. Mahindra could add some advanced technologies in order to make it more capable to go off-road.

Mahindra has been known for having the biggest portfolio of SUVs in India. The homegrown automaker is aiming to grab a bigger market share in coming days with more models. Alongside that, the brand is working on updating the current models as well. The next-gen Mahindra Thar comes as part of that futuristic strategy. It will compete with Force Gurkha upon launch.
