Tata Motors is aiming to grab a significant chunk of the sub-20 lakh SUV market with the Harrier. But, the task is not easy at all considering its rivals. Tata Harrier vs rivals – Clever pricing to lure buyers
Tata Motors has been surprising us for the last couple of years with the pricing of its new age cars. It began with the Tata Tiago and continuing with other models. The Harrier became the latest to join the pack. Priced between Rs 12.69 lakh and Rs 16.25 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi), the Tata Harrier competes with Hyundai Creta alongside the Mahindra XUV500 and Jeep Compass.
The Mahindra XUV500 is priced between Rs 12.72 lakh and Rs 19.47 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The Jeep Compass is priced between Rs 15.40 lakh and Rs 22.90 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). It is very much evident that the Tata Harrier is priced very aggressively against these two models.

Tata Harrier vs rivals – Power packed performance
Tata Harrier gets energy from a 2.0-litre Kryotc turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine. Coupled with a 6-speed manual gearbox, this engine churns out 138 bhp of power at 3,750 rpm and 350 Nm of torque at 1,750 rpm. The closest rival Mahindra XUV500 comes in both petrol and diesel engine options. A 2.2-litre petrol engine is there kicking out 140 bhp of power and 320 Nm of torque. Also, there is a 2.2-litre diesel engine that puts out 155 bhp of peak power and 360 Nm of peak torque.
The Jeep Compass comes with a 1.4-litre petrol engine and a 2.0-litre diesel unit as well. The petrol engine kicks out 160 bhp of power and 250 Nm of torque. On the other hand, the diesel motor churns out 171 bhp of power and 350 Nm of torque. Transmission options include both manual and automatic gearbox.
