2019 Mercedes GLS SUV is larger and loaded, sits on Modular High Architecture
Mercedes-Benz seems to be readying to impress us with its top-of-the-range new Mercedes GLS. Yes, the German luxury carmaker has showcased the 2019 Mercedes GLS at the New York Motor Show. It appears bigger and loaded besides having a restyled look. The top-of-the-range luxury SUV is based on a new platform christened as Modular High Architecture (MHA). India launch of the car is not scheduled yet. However, we can expect it to reach here sometime next year.
New Mercedes GLS sports revised headlamps and tweaked LED daytime running lights. The front grille and lower air intake too have been updated. Moving to the side profile, the new Mercedes GLS gets large wheels. At the back, there is a completely new design LED taillights. Dimensionally, it is 77 mm longer and 22 mm wider than its predecessor. Wheelbase too has been increased by 60 mm.

As it looks, the new Mercedes GLS closely resembles the other models like GLC and GLE. Mercedes-Benz claims this car comes with improved aerodynamic efficiency. Inside the cabin, it is more loaded than the outgoing model. A 12.3-inch digital instrument display and a 12.3-inch MBUX touchscreen infotainment system above centre console are there. Instead of control buttons, the steering wheel features touchpads.
Thanks to the dimensional upgrade, new GLS offers more space and comfort to the second and third-row occupants. All the seven seats come as electronically adjustable. Rear seat occupants too get a dual 11.6-inch infotainment system with touchscreen.

Mechanically, the new Mercedes GLS will come with both petrol and diesel engine options. The international market-spec model boasts a 2.9-litre inline six-cylinder turbocharged OM 656 diesel engine. For petrol variants, a 48V mild-hybrid system will be onboard. There will be a 4.0-litre V8 engine and a 3.0-litre petrol motor as well. A 9-speed torque converter automatic gearbox will channel power to all the four wheels through Mercedes’ latest 4Matic AWD system.
