Maruti Baleno hybrid is India’s only premium hatchback to get smart hybrid tech
Baleno has been one of the main revenue generators for Maruti Suzuki. After adding a performance-focused RS variant, it’s time for Maruti to launch the Baleno hybrid. Maruti Baleno hybrid is ready to become the only premium hatchback in India to come with smart hybrid technology and it will also be the first Maruti car to comply with BS6 emission norms.
Available only in Delta and Zeta variants, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno hybrid is priced 7.25 lakh and 7.86 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) respectively. The Maruti Baleno hybrid comes with a 1.2-litre dual-jet, dual VVT BS6 compliant petrol engine that is coupled with a lithium-ion battery. This brings in the next generation of smart hybrid technology. As the automaker claims, this hatchback with smart hybrid tech returns 23.87 kmpl of mileage. Maruti has improved combustion efficiency and reduced friction.

Besides readying the new Baleno hybrid, Maruti Suzuki has also promised the existing 1.2-litre engine of the hatchback will be developed to comply with new emission norms. The CVT variants too will receive BS6 compliant engine adding more zing. Baleno has sold over 5.5 lakh units since launch. This has become the first car manufactured in India to export and sell in Japan.
In 2018-19, Maruti Baleno has registered 11% growth and it has a market share of 27% in the A2+ segment. No wonder, this is one of the bestselling cars in India as of now. With the introduction of the BS6 compliant engine and smart hybrid technology, the hatchback’s popularity is expected to grow further in coming days.

At the beginning of this year, Maruti Suzuki rolled out the Baleno facelift that came with a tweaked look. It came with a restyled front grille. It gets LED projector headlamps, diamond-cut alloy wheels. An updated touchscreen infotainment system is also there in the cabin.
