Renault is gearing up to repeat the success of Triber MPV in India
The French automobile manufacturer, Renault, is reportedly developing a sub-four metre SUV and Sedan for the Indian market. The company will try its best to repeat the success it got from the recently launched compact MPV, Triber. Renault Triber is a 7-seater MPV which is developed on the Renault’s CMF-A+ platform. This same platform is used for developing the Kwid hatch and Triber MPV.
The unique selling point of the CMF-A+ platform is that is it cheaper and quite rigid for the development of a compact SUV as well as Sedan for the emerging markets like India, Latin America, and Africa. A compact SUV from Renault will rival the likes of Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue Ford Ecosport, and Mahindra XUV300. On the other hand, a sub-4 metre sedan from the manufacturer will take on the Honda Amaze, Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Tigor etc.
Renault already sold more than 7000 Triber MPVs in just two months
However, the compact sedan segment saw a decline in sales as the majority of the population is moving towards the compact SUVs. This love for SUVs has taken on the sales of compact sedans as well as the C-segment sedans like Maruti Ciaz, Honda City, and Hyundai Verna. Another major reason for the fall of sales is the slowdown in the Indian economy. An important part lies in the fact that sub-4 metre sedans an attractive proposition for taxi aggregators like Ola and Uber. Hence, Renault is seeking to tap into this market to sell its next-generation compact sedan in bulk numbers.

Speaking about the compact SUV segment, we can see the bulk of sales from Maruti Brezza and Hyundai Venue. A compact SUV from Renault with aggressive pricing and a long list of features will likely attract more customers to the Renault showrooms. With the learnings from its Triber MPV, Renault can deploy interior space management into its other cars for enhanced customer experience. The company will also include the new tech into its Dacia cars which is being sold in Europe.
