Transport department has taken the measure to ensure better road safety in the region. This will make sure, only trained drivers get the permanent license.
Last year, a total of 1,505 people died in Delhi due to road accidents and 6,331 people were critically injured. In order to minimize the number significantly in coming days, Transport department has decided to conduct more stringent driving tests for the aspirants. The number of failure in the driving test conducted at Sarai Kale Khan RTO clearly shows how the test procedure has gone tougher. Among 120 odd applicants, around 50-60 people fail every day. However, the failed applicants can re-apply and take the test after a week. Interestingly, not only in Delhi, but several other RTOs across the country are also employing such automated driving tracks.
Speaking about the new test procedure, the automated tracks are able to simulate tougher driving conditions than before and skills of the applicant are tested extensively. The entire test is recorded on sensor based CCTV cameras positioned across the track. The video gets live streamed and evaluation is done by a software, not manually. Thus the test result is more efficient and error free. While deciding the final score, factors like numbers of times kerbs are hit, unscheduled stops, total time taken, proper reversing of the vehicle are taken into account.
