New Mercedes-AMG G63 comes lighter and more rigid, offers higher customization capability with ‘Designo’ platform.
New Mercedes-AMG G63 has been launched in India at a starting price tag of Rs 2.19 crore (ex-showroom). Based on the highly customizable ‘Designo’ platform, the performance focused luxury SUV has become more rigid and lightweight compared to the predecessor. Interestingly, this SUV has gone through the biggest change in its history. As the previous Mercedes-AMG G63’s were wholeheartedly focused of performance based off-roading, the new generation model too comes true to that philosophy.
New Mercedes-AMG G63 comes with technologies like AMG Ride Control suspension, adaptive adjustable damping that make the SUV more comfortably ride-worthy and dynamic as well. Thanks to a new body shell mounted on a high-strength ladder-type frame, the SUV comes with increased torsional rigidity. As the automaker claims, there is a new material mix used to build the car. This new material has resulted in 65kg reduced weight for the SUV.
Power source for the SUV is a gigantic 4.0-litre V8 bi-turbo engine that gets AMG Cylinder Management cylinder deactivation system. The engine is coupled with an AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission that comes with a model-specific software application to achieve very short shift timing. The engine is capable of churning out 577 bhp of power output and 850 Nm of torque output. Also, this makes the SUV to accelerate to 100 kmph from standstill position in just 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 220 kmph.
Speaking about the design of the SUV, it gets typical AMG type styling elements with vertically slated aggressive front grille flanked by round shaped LED headlamps. Also, there are 21-inch alloy wheels adding boldness. Inside the cabin, the SUV gets Mercedes Widescreen Cockpit at the updated dash and there is a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system as well.
