Maruti Suzuki Swift RS could launch in India in April 2019, will share Baleno RS’ 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbocharged petrol engine
Maruti Suzuki Swift RS has been making quite some buzz in the Indian market for the last couple of years. When Maruti Suzuki launched the new generation Swift, speculation about the performance-focused version increased drastically. Now, the hot hatch seems ready to enter the market in April 2019. Initially, it was though Maruti Suzuki will roll out Swift Sport. But, it is going to be the Maruti Suzuki Swift RS instead.
Maruti Suzuki Swift RS will share the same engine as Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS. This 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbocharged petrol engine is capable of churning out 101 bhp of peak power and 150 Nm of peak torque. The standard Maruti Suzuki Swift pumps out 82 bhp of power and 113 Nm of maximum torque. However, the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine could be tuned to generate more power for the Swift RS.

The Maruti Suzuki Swift RS will come with a sporty styling. It would sport a large black front grille, bigger air intakes, projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights etc. Sporty and large alloy wheels, LED taillights, roof spoiler will be there for sure. The hot-hatch will come with aerodynamically efficient design.
Inside the cabin, there would be an all-black theme to boost the sportiness. Contrast stitching would be seen on a flat-bottom steering wheel, sporty seats, door trims. Special badging and distinctive floor mats are on the card. A touchscreen infotainment system, advanced features along with a host of safety features will add zing to the car. Mechanically, it will benefit from a stiffer suspension and precision braking.
The regular Maruti Suzuki Swift is sold through the Arena dealerships. Upcoming Maruti Suzuki Swift RS could be sold through the premium Nexa retail chain. However, there is no official word about such strategy from the automaker. This upcoming hot-hatch will certainly add more colour to the brand portfolio.
