Tata’s much awaited SUV Harrier promises class-leading performance and driveability, based on JLR’s D8 platform and adopts Impact 2.0 design language
Tata Harrier is the one name we auto enthusiasts have been uttering for the last couple of months, hundreds of time. The much-awaited Tata Harrier SUV is finally here. Boy, it looks absolutely gorgeous with the Impact 2.0 design language. The new SUV is based on JLR’s D8 platform and is priced at Rs 12.69 (ex-showroom, Mumbai). The pricing ranges up to Rs 16.25 lakh (ex-showroom). This is certainly enough to give the Hyundai Creta a skip in heartbeat alongside the Mahindra XUV500 as well.
As we thought earlier, this would be the new flagship SUV, Tata spared itself from that. Probably the brand is saving the seven-seater version for that. However, the Harrier looks absolutely similar to the concept version we were impressed with at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo.

Coming to the technical bits, the Harrier’s Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced (OMEGA) architecture promises class-leading performance and driveability. Its future ready connectivity and infotainment along with the uncompromised safety features make this SUV a desirable one. The power source for the Tata Harrier is a new 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine that is capable of squeezing out 138 bhp of power and 350 Nm of torque output. A 6-speed manual gearbox does the transmission duty. A Hyundai-sourced automatic gearbox and a petrol engine will join the lineup later, probably when the seven-seater variant hits showrooms.

The interior of the car gives a vibe similar to the Tata Hexa. Some customers might make grumpy faces at the non-availability of four-wheel drive option. But, there are multiple off-roading options handy with a circular knob at the centre console. As far as the features are concerned, there is an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A 7.0-inch display comes at the analog-digital combo instrument cluster. Also, there are JBL audio system, leather upholstery, reverse camera, auto headlamps along with automatic climate control and cruise control.
